Five Things you’ll wish you had known before you Read this Book

(1) Why a book of just tips?

Think about it, if you were writing a book and you found some really great undocumented keyboard shortcut, or maybe a closely-guarded inside secret that you wanted to share with your readers, you’d want it to stand out, right? You’d want to do something that would grab the reader’s attention and say, “Hey, look over here—there’s something very cool, or important, or special.” Right? Right.

So, for years, authors have been creating these little tips in the margins of their books (like the one shown here, at left). That’s a pretty standard look for a sidebar tip—it has a bold title, a tint behind the text, and it’s off by itself, so it draws the reader’s attention. ...
