Chapter 12. Web Browsers
As a Mac OS X devotee, you enjoy a wealth of choices when it comes to Web browsing. Internet Explorer (IE) used to be the standard Mac browser, but Apple’s own Safari has taken over that spot. And, if you crave even more variety, you can use Mozilla, Firefox, Netscape Navigator, OmniWeb, Camino, Opera, or iCab.
No two browsers are created equal; they all have strengths and quirks. Choose one based on the features you like—or your desire to use the fewest Microsoft products possible (you know who you are).
Hints for All Browsers
The following hints should work on all of the browsers listed above. Due to the rapid evolution in most of the browsers, however, you may get different results, or the hint may fail completely in your browser of choice. Overall, though, these should work well in most browsers, and you may be pleasantly surprised by some of the cool tricks you’ve been missing.
Dragging and Dropping URLs
When you want to copy a URL (Web address) from a browser into another program (like your word processor or mail program), here’s the hard way to do it: Highlight the URL in the address bar, press
-C to copy it, switch to the other program, and then press
