Not all actions work together

If an action needs a certain kind of input, then of course the previous action must provide that kind of output.

Each action's Description field (see page 369) tells you what it will input and output. And when you place an action in a workflow, the input it requires from the previous action is displayed in the upper-right, as shown below. When two actions can work together, they connect in the upper/lower right.

You might, however, build actions that do not show a connection, and the text in red, as circled below, sometimes indicates it won't work. But this doesn't really mean it won't work—it just means it might not! The only thing you can do is run it and see.
