With whom can you chat?

Although you can text chat with people who are on AOL, using PCs, or running old versions of OS 9, you can only audio chat and video chat with people using Mac OS X. And you can only do conferences with multiple users if they are all running Tiger.

To audio chat with someone, she has to be in your Buddy List (see pages 102103). In the list, as shown below, you can have a one-on-one audio chat with anyone who displays a telephone icon next to her name.

If a Buddy shows multiple telephone icons, like “roadrat” and “John Tollett,” below, that means you can invite that person to an audio chat that involves more than one person.
