The Home Folder

Mac OS X creates a Home folder for each user account in the Users folder (Figure 27), with the user’s short name as the folder name. The icon for the folder appears as a house for the user who is currently logged in and as a regular folder for all other users. Each user’s Home folder contains folders for storing his files (Figure 32):

  • Desktop contains all items (other than mounted disks) on the user’s desktop.

  • Documents is the default file location for document files.

  • Movies, Music, and Pictures are for storing video, audio, and image files.

  • Sites is for the user’s Web site, which can be put online with the Personal Web Sharing feature.
