What Are System Preferences, and How Do They Compare with Windows Control Panels?
They are pretty much the same thing, except the System Preferences panels in Mac OS X are less likely to ruin your day than the control panels in Windows.
The names of the individual Mac OS X System Preferences panels should give you a good idea of what they do, but to avoid confusion I’ve created a chart that compares the functionality of the control panels in Windows 98 with their Mac OS X equivalents.
