Meet the Desktop

Let me start by introducing you to the basic Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar Desktop—the first thing you see when starting to work on your Mac, especially if you never power it down. Yes, Mac OS X is stable enough to leave running all the time. Whether or not you do that is between you and the Global Warming folks, though the new Macs are remarkably energy efficient.

Our tour begins on the Desktop of the wide-screen iMac that I’m using to write this book. I am imagining you at the keyboard and me looking over your shoulder. This is a book version of the tour I’ve given many times to friends interested in Mac OS X.
