Help! I Need More USB/FireWire Ports!

It’s fairly easy to run out of these, especially if you’re using a third-party keyboard that causes you to lose the USB port available off the stock Apple keyboard. You can buy external hubs to add more USB or FireWire ports to your Mac, and as long as they’re USB- or FireWire-compliant, they should work. But I try to avoid hubs for aesthetic reasons.

If you buy a hub, there’s no reason to select a more expensive USB 2.0 model, as your Mac can’t increase its speed to match the hub. Stick with plain USB 1.x, and you’ll be fine.
