About This Book

This is a book for people who want to make their own decisions about the computer that’s best for them. It is a book by a Windows user for other Windows users. It is also a book by a Macintosh user for his Windows-using friends. My hope is that this book will be the long conversation I’d like to have with everyone who has seen my Mac and asked the question “Should I buy one, too?”

This book grew out of a series of columns—included here—that I wrote in early 2002, almost immediately after the new iMac came out. The idea was for me to spend a month using a Mac as my primary tool, doing all the things on the Macintosh using Mac OS X that I would normally do in Windows.
