Security Applications

Mac OS 9 introduced two new security software applications:

  • Apple File Security encrypts files so they cannot be opened by others unless they have the file's passphrase. It also compresses encrypted files so they take up less space on disk and can be transferred online more quickly.

  • Apple Verifier verifies the digital signatures that may be present in files. A digital signature can confirm that a file originates from a specific individual or organization.

You can find both of these programs in the Security folder (Figure 15) inside the Applications folder on your hard disk
