Dialog Boxes

Mac OS-compatible applications use dialog boxes to tell you things (figure 25) and get information from you (figures 26 through 29). Think of it as the way your computer has a conversation—or dialog—with you.

Every application has its own set of dialog boxes, but there are some dialog boxes that are basically the same from one application to another:

  • Open dialog box (figure 26) lets you open a document from within an application (as opposed to opening it from the Finder).
