Tip 397Grab Files from FTP Servers Using Finder

Finder includes basic FTP accessing functionality. You can browse files and folders on an FTP server and download them, but you can’t upload files. For that you’ll need to use a third-party FTP client. SFTP isn’t supported either.

To connect to an FTP server, open a Finder window, and click GoConnect to Server. In the dialog box that appears, type ftp:// followed by the address into the Server Address field. For example, to connect to the server at ftp.example.com, I would type the following:

 
ftp://ftp.example.com

Then click the Connect button. You’ll be prompted for your username and password once you’ve connected. The protocol to log into public FTP servers is usually to specify anonymous
