Tip 272Zoom Into the Desktop

Ever wanted to examine something on a web page in more detail? OS X includes a screen zoom tool that’s deactivated by default but can be extremely useful.

Setting Up

To activate the screen zoom tool, start System Preferences (Apple menuSystem Preferences), and click the Accessibility icon. Make sure the Zoom icon is selected, and then check Use Scroll Wheel with Modifier Keys to Zoom. Then close System Preferences.

Zooming In

From then on, if you hold down Control and vertically scroll the mouse wheel/​ball (or drag two fingers Up/Down a multitouch trackpad), you can zoom into the screen at the cursor position. This feature is designed for people who have impaired vision, but it’s also a quick, albeit low-fi way ...
