Tip 177Spawn New Finder Windows

This is an obvious and simple tip yet is one that eluded me and several people I know until recently. If you want to open a new, additional Finder window—perhaps to drag a file from one Finder window to another—you can hold down Command while double-clicking a folder on the desktop or within a Finder window.

If you don’t hold down Command, the default action when double-clicking a folder is to “reuse” the same Finder window.

To close all Finder windows at the same time, just hold down Option while clicking the Close button at the top left. (This works for all apps, not just Finder.)
