Tip 93Stop iCloud from Being the Default

Assuming you have the Documents & Data option activated in iCloud, you’ll find that any iCloud-enabled app like TextEdit will always automatically choose iCloud in Save dialog boxes. You can manually select your hard disk if you want to save files there, but it’s something of a chore!

A secret command will switch Save dialogs to default to your hard disk as the destination for new files.

Open a Terminal window (open Finder, select the Applications list, and then in the list of applications double-click Terminal within the Utilities folder), and type the following:

 
defaults write -g NSDocumentSaveNewDocumentsToCloud -bool FALSE

Then close all open apps, and log out and back in again for the changes ...
