Chapter 4. Hey, Joe, Whaddya Know?

Back in civilization, you can now purchase all the highfalutin software you want. But that doesn’t mean you should forget all that you’ve learned through your previous out-of-the-box privation. If we catalog what we’ve created thus far, we’ll see that we’ve done quite a bit. We have tools and skills that will help us survive in three distinct realms of design. We can design for print. We can design for the Web. And we can design for video. Within each of those fields, we’ve learned to use similar skills for different ends. And we’ve employed our Rules of Thumb as guidelines that don’t dictate, but rather point a way through the forest of chaos to the clearing of design.
