Chapter 2. Web Design

Famed graphic designer Milton Glaser once said that design could be described as moving things “from an existing condition to a preferred one.” Let that sink in for a moment. Design is moving things from an existing condition to a preferred one. Nice stuff, huh? On a very basic level, of course, he’s right. Think back on the work we did in the previous chapter. Aside from getting off the island, essentially moving from the existing condition (stranded) to a preferred one (back to civilization), we took the elements of our fliers and rearranged them from one condition that was satisfactory to another, more effective one. Then we sent the fliers off in bottles.
