Chapter 27. Filesystem

This Topic has significant overlap with Chapter 6, which covered LPIC Level 1 Topic 104, Devices, Linux Filesystems, and the File Hierarchy Standard. For that reason, this section will reiterate some content regarding filesystem management, such as creating, mounting, and maintaining filesystems. While an LPIC-1 is expected to be proficient at each of these tasks in isolation, an LPIC-2 must be able to utilize these skills in a production environment, streamlining filesystem tasks and maintaining live productive server environments.

This Topic contains three Objectives:

Objective 1: Operating the Linux Filesystem

Candidates should be able to properly configure and navigate the standard Linux filesystem. This Objective includes configuring and mounting various filesystem types. Also included is manipulating filesystems to adjust for disk space requirements or device additions. Weight: 3.

Objective 2: Maintaining a Linux Filesystem

Candidates should be able to properly maintain a Linux filesystem using system utilities. This objective includes manipulating a standard ext2 filesystem. Weight: 4.

Objective 3: Creating and Configuring Filesystem Options

Candidates should be able to configure the automounting of filesystems. This Objective includes configuring automount for network and device filesystems. Also included is creating non-ext2 filesystems for devices such as CD-ROMs. Weight: 3.
