14.1   Basic Lighting Kit

The ‘basic three-lamp kit’ is a term often used to describe the kit of luminaires carried by most cameramen engaged in single-camera operations. In many instances the cameraman may be working alone, sometimes with a sound recordist, and sometimes with the luxury of an electrician! The early portable lighting kits often meant three Redheads plus stands in a lightweight case, often supplemented with a 2 kW Blonde for any special requirement. The three Redheads at 800 W each can be safely connected to a 13 A socket (≅3kW maximum power) without the need for a special supply.
