Urban Development Authorities

Urban planning and development, and provision of civic amenities such as water supply, sewerage, and prevention of pollution constitute some of the basic functions of urban local government. But our municipal institutions are alleged to be incapable of performing these functions. The state governments therefore, constitute specialized agencies such as improvement trusts, housing boards, water supply and sewerage boards, and pollution control boards to carry out these functions.
