LANE Version 2

At the time of writing, LANE version 1 is implemented in products. However, the ATM Forum has published version 2 standards for clients and servers.

Version 2 adds some desirable features to LANE, including

  • The introduction of Quality of Service for data connections

  • The capability to set up multiple instances of each server type

  • An improved method of handling multicast traffic

A LANE client can register the acceptable service categories that it is willing to accept in incoming calls. A caller can set up multiple connections to a destination with each call carrying traffic for a different service category. For example, separate calls could be used for voice, video, and bulk data.
