100VG-AnyLAN

100VG-AnyLAN is a technology that was proposed as an alternative to 100Mbps Ethernet. 100VG-AnyLAN did not succeed in gathering sufficient vendor or customer support to make it into a serious contender. Today, even Hewlett-Packard, its staunchest supporter, offers a meager scattering of VG products that are almost lost within HP's list of Ethernet offerings. The market has cast a deciding ballot for Ethernet.

However, it is easy to see why the IEEE granted 100VG-AnyLAN standards status, publishing it as IEEE 802.12. This is an interesting technology, and it is outlined briefly in the sections that follow.
