An administrator who is preparing a station to participate in a Fast Ethernet LAN must install an appropriate network adapter:
100BASE-T4 with an RJ-45 socket for four pairs of Category 3 twisted-pair cabling
100BASE-TX with an RJ-45 socket for two pairs of Category 5 twisted-pair cabling
100BASE-FX with an ST socket if optical cables with ST plugs have been installed
100BASE-FX with an SC socket if optical cables with SC plugs have been installed
