1000BASE-T

The design of 1000BASE-T borrowed several features from 100BASE-T2.

  • A 1000BASE-T link physically operates in a full-duplex manner.

  • After an autoconfiguration negotiation that establishes the properties of the link, steady streams of symbols flow across each wire pair in both directions.

  • Idle symbols are sent between data transmissions.

  • The start and end of each frame are marked by special delimiters.

1000BASE-T operates bidirectionally across four twisted pairs. A complex encoding and lots of extra electronic components have been introduced to accomplish full-duplex gigabit transmission.
