16.5. Becoming familiar with the mainframe

Any new hardware needs specific skill. In this respect, zSeries machines are no different from other platforms. Setting up Linux on the mainframe requires zSeries skill and probably also z/VM skill. If you do not have sufficient skill in your IT division, you will have to acquire it. A zSeries machine has too much potential not to invest in optimizing its operations. Your system administrator's mainframe skill is instrumental in this effort.
