What are the mainframe attributes that make it valuable from a TCO perspective?
6.2.1. Availability factors
To assess the impact of an unavailable system and hence what it is worth to you to have the system available, you should consider these factors:
Staff productivity— If the system is down, parts of your staff cannot perform their jobs.The cost depends on the duration of the outage and how many employees were impacted. How long does it take before the system is up again, and what does a person-hour cost you?
Damage to the company brand— If the outage is spectacular enough, it will make the news.
Effect on the share value and hence the value of the company.
