B.1. Corporate profile of StoreCompany

StoreCompany started out as a small western Pennsylvania department store chain in the 1960s. It has since expanded its network of stores over most of the eastern United States.

While merchandising is the heart of StoreCompany's business, it relies on its infrastructure for support. Its management information systems help store clerks, increase accuracy and efficiency of the four distribution centers, and manage the details of product range planning. Figure B-1 shows an overview organization chart.
