Summary

We described the tasks of a Web browser compared to those of a Web server to understand the role of the server in the Web. The W3C and ASF are two important organizations concerned with the Web. Web servers commonly break into Microsoft-exploitive servers, such as IIS, and cross-platform interoperable servers, such as Apache. We surveyed some desirable features needed in a good Web server and noted those that favor Linux or Windows instead of working on either platform. The contrast in Web servers is mainly whether each runs on Windows platforms or Linux platforms. Two types of clustering were mentioned.
