Types of Backup

System backup is important for saving the state of a working system. With the enormous size of hard disk drives today, strategies for doing backups that do not involve full disk images are quite relevant. We will mention two, but those interested in optimal backup strategies should look at disaster recovery strategies. Each strategy discussed in this chapter is applicable to an individual backing up his or her files and to a system administrator backing up an entire system.
