Attaching a Networked Windows XP Printer to Red Hat Linux 7.1

A Red Hat Linux 7.1 client may print to a Windows XP printer. The two transport options are the same as the converse case discussed previously in “Attaching a Networked Red Hat Linux 7.1 Printer to Windows XP.” The Windows XP host must define a printer as a normal share or as an lpd printer.

The latter requires Windows XP, Windows NT, or Windows 2000 with TCP/IP Print Services installed. The Linux client needs a print queue defined as “Unix Printer (lpd) Queue” through printconf or a manual method. The driver for the target printer must be used. That's it.
