Periodic Administration Tasks

Many of the servers at Elsolutions boot Red Hat Linux 7.1, but some run Windows 2000 Server or may eventually use Windows XP Server. There are periodic maintenance tasks that may be carried out at various intervals. The following sections are a comprehensive list of potential tasks. Not all of these apply to every circumstance, but each is worth considering.

Daily

Each day, administrative personnel may carry out these tasks where they are applicable.

• Check the event log of every server. Remedy any problems discovered. Event logs are checked on Windows with the event viewer, eventvwr. Events are check on Linux by using text tools on files in the /var/log directory.
