Summary

We have shown a number of tools and techniques for compiling and debugging programs. We have also shown that debugging techniques are useful in both the Linux and the Windows environments. Without the GNU project and the Open Software Foundation, this cross-platform programming could not be done. Cygwin represents an excellent environment for anyone who has to use Windows for more than just word processing or spreadsheets. The price is certainly right. Those transitioning into the Linux world and who have never used UNIX tools before might be challenged. The challenge will soften due to the extensive and complete documentation for the GNU tools.
