Scripting Languages

The following sections survey representative scripting languages in use in Windows, Linux, or both. This is not a tutorial or reference for theses languages. See the bibliography for language references. Some readers may raise their eyebrows at the inclusion of some of the languages in the selection. We'll give the rationale with each of those choices. Keep in mind that some languages are declarative, not procedural. Some languages are omitted to keep the list shorter.
