Red Hat 7.1 Linux Scripting

Scripting is more central to Linux startup than to Windows startup (boot sequences). The Linux system will not even initialize without scripting. A Red Hat Linux 7.1 distribution uses UNIX System V init to initialize the system to a given runlevel and to start the corresponding services. The init script is located in /etc/inittab. Its function is to create processes descended from it. It usually has scripts that spawn script-based login consoles so that users or administrators may log in to the Linux system. The other function is to spawn daemon processes, also called services. The init process thus creates a booted system using scripts that call on system functions as necessary.
