Demoting a Domain

Demoting a domain controller is easier than promoting it. Demoting is necessary if you require your domain controller to belong to a different domain and you have already promoted it. Another reason is that your domain tree structure no longer meets your needs. Dcpromo.exe will remove the Active Directory services from the computer and restore it to a normal Windows server. When the last domain controller in a domain is demoted, all security accounts in the domain are lost. Demotion is easy: Just type dcpromo from the Start>Run menu and follow the onscreen directions.
