9.3. Conclusion

The awk language can be a complex language to learn, but to use it for one-liners or small scripts, the learning curve is not very steep. Throughout this chapter I have tried to introduce you to awk at its most basic. I have not gone into the awk language in too much depth; I believe that we have covered the essentials for awk. Awk is an important tool in shell programming, but you do not need to be a guru at it to use its powerful text processing abilities, in the shell or with shell programs.
