Virtualization
Simply put, virtualization means making something look like something else. Technically speaking, virtualization refers to the abstraction of computer resources. This abstraction can be achieved in various ways: via software, hardware, or a mix of both.
Virtualization technologies have been around in various forms for a long time. This technology has been especially pervasive and more commonplace in recent years. This recent pervasiveness can be attributed to many factors, including necessity, reduction in cost, new innovations, and simpler implementations. This chapter discusses some abstraction concepts and techniques that are common in Linux platforms today.
