Change or Perish
When you’re finished changing, you’re finished.
When you walk into the office of Ford’s CEO Alan Mulally, your eyes are immediately drawn to the reproduction of a SaturdayEvening Post spread hanging on his wall. The watercolor image (shown in Figure 7.1) depicts a young family looking at a line of cars with the Ford factory in the background. The picture is accompanied by the tagline “Opening the highways to all mankind.” That was Henry Ford’s mission: to make transportation affordable to every person who wanted it. After nearly a century of business, Ford is still in line with this original vision.
