5.0 Alejandro Chaskielberg’s series The High Tide depicts life of the islanders in the Paraná Delta River, “where the river tides determine the activities and movements of its inhabitants.” A long, 6-minute exposure allows him to capture the moonlit background, while he uses LED flashlights to selectively illuminate his subjects. Chaskielberg breaks with documentary tradition by casting real people in imagined situations based on their own lives. In this project, everyday reality is transformed into a dreamlike world where customary perceptions of color, light, and space are challenged.
