EXPOSURE BASICS

Proper exposure technique — acceptable shadow and highlight detail — is the technical prerequisite to the process of transforming ideas into photographs. Although digital imaging software offers numerous corrections tools, it is preferable to make original exposures as accurately as possible to avoid compromising image quality. The following exposure guidelines can deliver acceptable exposures under a wide variety of conditions with a minimum of fuss.
