GROUP OF MEERKATS

One of the most interesting things about drawing animals is exploring the way they interact with one another. The original photo references for this composition (on page 23) show a group of meerkats huddled together for warmth. The location of each animal is a direct result of their social standing in the group, and the warmest meerkat of all is the one at the bottom with a very smug look on its face. All the others are huddled around and on top of it, each trying to squirm its way into a warmer spot.
