CHALLENGES AND ALTERNATIVES FOR WOMEN LAWYERS

Women lawyers face unique challenges in the profession, along with at least one privilege. If success is defined as equity partnership and/or management roles, they don’t succeed as often as men do. Some face a range of professional obstacles, including harassment and discrimination, which ironically are harder to overcome in a law firm than in other workplaces. At the same time, some women have something of an advantage over men when it comes to leaving their firms. Leaving a law job is easier to explain in conjunction with having a child than with having a change of heart.
