Growing up, I remember learning about the stock market during the early 1970s from my father. We’d talk on the phone to my dad’s stockbroker and would on occasion visit him in his office. Friday night, we’d watch Louis Rukeyser’s program, Wall Street Week, on PBS, one of only several major networks. We’d have to wait for the next morning’s Wall Street Journal to see how our stocks did the prior day. Cable television, the Internet, and personal finance publications were almost non-existent.
