What is dangerous with the word "cloud" nowadays is that it is a relatively young approach, so that not everyone necessarily has the same.

In order for certain terms to have the same meaning in the scope of this book, some definitions are in order.

Cloud offering levels

Currently, there is some agreement however, that there are three different service levels offered by clouds. This should be the shared understanding for our following work on clouds.

1. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): In IaaS, only the hardware is dematerialized.
