AX has its own data integration module called Application Integration Framework (AIF) that uses XML documents as a data layer when transporting data. This book does not cover the AIF as it could probably fill a book on its own. It does, however, cover the same generic base classes that the AIF is based upon, so it is a good idea to read this part even if you will be using the AIF.

The use of XML files to transport data between systems is increasing rapidly.
