Using Location
One of the most common sensors that people use on their phones every day is GPS. The Global Positioning System uses satellites in orbit around Earth to triangulate an exact location. (That’s why it is sometimes called SatNav.) This creates a variety of new use cases for different kinds of apps.
When an app can figure out its location, the door is open for many new features that use location and what’s nearby as context for what the user can see and do. This is a powerful new avenue for computing, and you can probably think of a handful of apps that use location as part of their service. Some of these apps likely didn’t exist yet when these words were written. Location is a powerful piece of information to have.
