Wic

Wic is more of a feature then a project per se. It is the least documented, and if a search is conducted for it, you may find no results. I have decided to mention it here because in the development process, some special requirements could appear, such as generating a custom root filesystem from available packages (such as .deb, .rpm, or .ipk).
