Summary

As you have seen, character design can be quite complex and you have to think about a lot of different elements. You can, of course, dive into the modeling with just an idea in mind, but that’s probably going to be much more difficult, as you’ll have to invent stuff on the fly. This design stage is crucial because it lets you define everything about your character: personality, attitude, looks, clothing, details, and so forth. Once you’ve done that, you’ll know your character very well and you’ll know it will look good once it’s nicely modeled in 3D. Otherwise, you may find that after all your time and effort, the idea you had in mind was not clear enough and some things may not work as you expected they would.
