Meta

Meta refers to elements in the interface that are not part of the game world per se but that give the player information in the form of actual gameplay elements. A meta interface is more interactive than a non-diegetic interface but does not use actual objects in the game world. Rain falling on the screen and the splatter of blood as if the player was hurt would be good examples.
