6. Adding Animations to Our Scene

In this chapter we will take a look at adding some life to our characters. We will take a look at 2D versus 3D animation and cover the key differences between transform and multi-sprite frame animations. We will also look at ways of using programming to create scripted animations that will save us time and help with continuously looping animations.

We will cover the Graph Editor and Dope Sheet tools and how best to utilize both of them for our animations. Last, we will take a look at how to set up an Animation State Machine to manage the various circumstances or “events” that might affect our player during the game, such as jumping onto a platform or taking damage from an enemy.
